The Crown Estate’s Marine team are the managers of the seabed and much of the coastline around England, Wales and Northern Ireland and our vision is to create the most sustainable and attractive marine economy and environment in the world.  Adrian’s role is to drive innovation and technical excellence at the intersection of sustainable energy solutions by providing technical leadership, insights, and expertise that shape the design of CCUS and hydrogen initiatives and leasing. Previous experience as an engineer, team leader, general manager and now technology manager stems from academic training in chemical and petroleum engineering and 37 years in energy. As Chair of the Offshore Wind and CCS Colocation Forum he is involved in supporting data and evidence to enable storage and colocation of CO2 alongside other seabed uses particularly offshore wind arrays.

Alessandro Barberis is the Managing Director of Bacton CCS and Eni Tellus CCS, two operating companies promoting carbon capture and storage projects in the UK Continental Shelf that form part of the portfolio of initiatives of Eni CCUS Holding – the CCS company set up in the UK between global energy-tech company Eni and BlackRock’s GIP.

As part of Eni CCUS Holding’s top management, he has a direct overview of the company’s international portfolio of CCS projects, including the Liverpool Bay CCS in the North West of England and North Wales.

Alessandro holds a degree with honours in Geological Sciences from the University of Milan; after graduating he immediately joined Eni in 1992 as Junior Explorationist and, since then, he has spent more than 30 years of his career in the Eni Upstream Sector, both in Italy and abroad (Northern Europe and North Africa).

In the last fifteen years, he has held the position of VP Exploration for the Americas and Northern Europe and Europe, Central Asia, Far East and Pacific, as well as holding senior leadership positions in Exploration through different assignments in Italy and abroad (Northern Europe, North Africa, East Med.).

He has held the position of Country Manager/Managing Director of the Eni’s Cyprus subsidiary for 5 years. Alessandro has also served both as Director and Chairman on the boards of Eni international and Italian companies. His two latest assignments were as EVP Exploration at Var Energi Norway and Ithaca Energy UK companies.

Alexander Vink is a seasoned energy executive with over 20 years of commercial experience across international roles in energy markets, infrastructure development, and the energy transition. As Commercial Director CCS at Gasunie, he plays a pivotal role in shaping and scaling carbon capture and storage (CCS) as a cornerstone of Europe’s decarbonization strategy.

Driven by the ambition to accelerate the energy transition, Alexander focuses on building strong partnerships across industry, government, and society. He is committed to positioning CCS as a vital backbone of a sustainable energy system—connecting emitters, infrastructure, and storage solutions across borders. His work centers on creating commercially viable pathways for CCS, aligning stakeholder interests, and enabling large-scale deployment through collaboration and innovation.

Gasunie is a Dutch state-owned energy infrastructure company that plays a key role in the transition to a climate-neutral energy system. With a strong track record in managing large-scale gas infrastructure, Gasunie is now actively developing and operating new infrastructure for hydrogen, CCS, heat and green gases.

Alistair Black is an energy transition lawyer based in London. He has extensive experience advising NOCs, IOCs, independents and lenders within the LNG, CCUS, hydrogen, petrochemicals and general oil and gas sectors.

Alistair is currently acting on a number of market ‘first’ transactions in the UK and internationally, specifically developing Regulated Asset Base assets within the CCS and CO2 shipping spaces. He is currently advising on the development of the Northern Endurance Partnership and Net Zero Teesside projects. He is also involved in numerous other (confidential) emitter and cluster projects in the UK, all regulated under the proposed TRI model, which will implement Regulated Asset Base models.

Alistair also advises the Non-Pipeline Transportation working group of the UK’s Carbon Capture and Storage Association on the development of business models to extend the TRI regime to incorporate CO2 shipping.

Alistair has been with the North Sea Transition Authority (formerly OGA) since 2016 and was Area Manager for the SNS/EIS from 2019.

Alistair is the co-chair of the North Sea Transition Steering Committee’s CO2 Transportation and Storage Task Force and from the 1st of February 2023 has led the NSTA’s UK Carbon Transportation and Storage Team who have responsibility for evaluating and consenting to Co2 storage permit applications.

Prior to joining NSTA Alistair had 25+ yrs experience with a number of operators and service companies working in Finance, Commercial, Planning and Strategy roles in the UK and overseas.  

Cameron Tandy is a Managing Director at Accenture, leading the Energy, Chemicals and Mining industry sectors in the UK and Ireland. He brings over 27 years of experience in delivering data & AI, technology, digital, consulting and outsourcing solutions to clients in these asset intensive industries.

In his current role, he is particularly focused on helping organisations navigate the energy transition and the AI-driven industry reinvention by combining industry insight with digital innovation and strategic partnerships.

Cameron holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand and an MBA from Wits Business School.

Craig McKay is an Energy Transition Lead for Wood with over 12 years’ experience in industry. He has a background in both flow assurance and process engineering, providing consulting for a variety of onshore and offshore projects. Craig is a specialist in the modelling of CO2 rich fluids and subsequent model set-up, having been involved with some of Europe’s largest CCS projects. He has furthered his experience in the thermodynamic modelling of CO2-rich fluids in the production of good practice guidelines in conjunction with the Energy Institute and BP. He has also provided input to the recently completed JIP led by Wood regarding Industry Guidelines for Setting the CO2 Specification in CCUS Chains, which has won multiple industry awards.

Daniella has 30 years of experience in global energy markets and has lived and worked in the US, Latin America, Middle East and Europe with companies like Enron, Shell and KPMG. Daniella acts as a specialist business advisor for Hydrogen and CCUS at the UK Department for Business and Trade, supporting the development of a state-of-the-art Hydrogen and CCUS economy, and is closely involved in the CCUS Cluster Sequencing and HAR programmes. Daniella is also a non-executive Director of VH Global Energy Infrastructure plc, and chairs the Energy and Decarbonisation Committee of the Brazilian Chamber of Commerce in Great Britain as well as the UK Trade Chapter of global gender equality network G100.

David joined Offshore Energies UK (OEUK) on 1 January 2023 as Chief Executive.

David is an established industry leader with 30 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. He has extensive knowledge of the North Sea sector, and most recently spent 7 years as the Managing Director of CNR International. David is respected across the sector for his strategic and hands-on leadership in the North Sea and around the world, including the USA, Netherlands, and Philippines.

His passion for energy, engineering and innovation is built on a PhD in Theoretical Chemistry from Cambridge University and a degree in Chemistry from Manchester University. He is currently studying at the University of Aberdeen for a Masters in Renewable Engineering.

Eddie is the Scotland representative of the National Wealth Fund and is based in Edinburgh.  His role covers NWF’s activities across both the public and private sectors.    Prior to joining NWF, Eddie was an Executive Director at the Scottish National Investment Bank, and Head of Corporate Finance at Edinburgh-based merchant bank Noble & Co.  Earlier in his career, he established Clydesdale Bank’s first renewable energy team and its project finance product offering.

Emma is a Chief Process Safety Engineer at Kent with over 20 years of experience in process safety management and major hazard risk assessment. She has worked across a range of high-hazard industries, including oil and gas, hydrogen, offshore wind, and energy storage, supporting clients worldwide.

Emma has served as a Safety Discipline Lead on multi-disciplinary design projects, including both blue and green hydrogen developments. Her expertise includes hazard identification, risk assessment, process safety management, and regulatory compliance, with a particular focus on the Control of Major Accident Hazards (COMAH) Regulations 2015.

She holds a degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Cambridge, is a Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers, and is a registered Professional Process Safety Engineer.

Enrique is OEUK’s Energy Policy Director, a role he has held since January 2026. He leads the development and advocacy of forward-looking energy policy for the offshore energy sector. His team draws on robust data, market intelligence and industry insight to shape policy direction, influence decision makers and support the UK’s energy security objectives. He joined OEUK in 2023 as Head of Policy.

Enrique brings over 14 years of experience in energy and climate policy, with senior domestic and international roles across the UK government. His career has spanned oil and gas, renewables and climate policy development. He has led the Energy Team at the British Embassy in Mexico, delivered the oil and gas exports strategy for the Americas and Africa at the Department for International Trade, led the technologies strand of the UK government’s Industrial Decarbonisation Strategy covering CCUS, hydrogen and electrification, and headed the CCUS Supply Chains work at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.

Eva Leinwather is part of the Technical & Innovation Team at the Energy Institute where she delivers the Institute’s technical research programme on CCUS, serving as the Technical Manager CCUS since 2022.

In this role, she oversees the strategic direction of the CCUS work programme, managing the main Committee and the project delivery of several technical specialist working groups. She works closely with international stakeholders from industry, regulators, academia and service providers to deliver guidelines and research on topics including flow assurance and modelling, hazard analysis, plant design, CO₂ stream impurity measurement and corrosion management.

Previously, Eva supported the G+ Offshore Wind Health and Safety Organisation in delivering industry projects aimed at improving safety performance, contributing to project management, refining technical guidance and producing digital content.

She holds an MSc in Environmental Technology with a specialisation in Energy Policy from Imperial College London.

Gary leads strategic growth and business development at Kellas Midstream across the company’s gas transportation and processing, and low carbon hydrogen activities. He has more than 30 years’ experience in the UK and international energy sector with Kellas Midstream and previously BP, where he held senior commercial and leadership roles in the upstream business.

Gary has won two NSTA MER awards for innovative deal-making in complex joint ventures. He holds a Masters degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering from the University of Manchester.

Kellas Midstream is developing a CCS enabled hydrogen project capable of delivering up to 1GW of low carbon energy to industry in Teesside. The project, in partnership with SSE, is part of the East Coast Cluster and benefits from synergies with Kellas existing CATS gas infrastructure business which serves more than 30 producing fields in the North Sea and delivers around 25% of UK’s total gas production.

Gavin is Chief Executive Officer of Veri Energy and brings over 30 years of global investment experience. Veri Energy is focused on delivering a practical and just energy transition by repurposing existing energy infrastructure for large-scale decarbonisation, including e-fuels, onshore wind, and carbon storage. Its flagship development at the Sullom Voe Terminal in Shetland aims to establish the site as a strategically important net-zero energy hub for the UK.

Earlier in his career, Gavin held senior roles in climate and infrastructure finance, including leadership positions at the Green Investment Group and a formative role in establishing the UK Green Investment Bank. Gavin chaired the infrastructure working group of Scotland’s First Minister’s Investor Panel, advising on the mobilisation of global capital into net-zero infrastructure.

Gjermund Stakland has more than 25 years of experience from the oil and gas industry, with extensive work on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS) as well as on international projects. With a background as an economist, he has held a range of commercial, strategic, and leadership roles across the energy value chain.

Since 2024, he has been actively involved in carbon capture and storage (CCS), focusing on the transition from individual projects to scalable, integrated systems. He is currently a board member of Northern Lights, representing Equinor, where he contributes to strategic oversight of one of Europe’s leading CCS transport and storage initiatives.

His work focuses on system design and governance, with emphasis on enabling scalable and interoperable CCS solutions.

Gwen Jackson-Johns is a Senior Consultant in DNV’s Energy Strategy Advisory team, specialising in low‑carbon energy systems and the transition to net zero. With an MEng in Chemical and Energy Engineering from the University of Leeds, Gwen joined DNV in 2019 and has since developed expertise across hydrogen, CO₂ transport and storage, and future fuels integration.

She has led and supported a wide range of projects, including hydrogen storage assessments, hydrogen smart‑meter readiness, and regional hydrogen infrastructure planning. Her experience in carbon capture and storage spans technical and commercial evaluations of intermittent CO₂ emitters as well as guidance on non‑pipeline CO₂ transport solutions looking at the key considerations for emitters located outside major industrial clusters seeking to adopt NPT solutions in the UK. Gwen has also supported the development of an IOGP lifecycle assessment guidance document designed to evaluate net CO₂ emissions to the atmosphere from CCS projects.

Hayleigh is the Technology Principal for Hydrogen, Alternative Fuels, and CCUS at the Net Zero Technology Centre. In this role, she delivers on and oversees the strategic direction and delivery of key initiatives across these focus areas. Her work spans the development of innovative projects such as the Hydrogen Backbone Link, the Energy Hubs project and Phase 2 of the Hydrogen Offshore Production project. Hayleigh is now leading the development and delivery of NZTC’s Clean Fuels 2035 Mission, focused on scaling clean fuels through investable, place-based energy systems and accelerating decarbonisation of hard-to-abate sectors.

Iain is the CCUS Technology Manager at the Net Zero Technology Centre where he is responsible for driving strategy, thought leadership and leading the technology development programme across the priority areas of capture, utilisation, and transportation and storage.

He is a geoscientist, whose career started at the operational end of seismic acquisition, before moving on to developing specialist geophysical workflows and application of big data to deepen our understanding of the subsurface. Iain is passionate about transferring those skills and knowledge into the development and deployment of technology for the safe and efficient storage of CO₂ and an affordable net zero energy industry. 

Ivan Gutierrez is CEO and Founder of OGC Energy, a UK-based materials, corrosion and asset integrity consultancy supporting energy projects worldwide. He has more than 25 years’ experience helping developers, operators and supply-chain companies align technical decisions and manage integrity risk from concept and FEED through to operation. His CCS experience spans gas and liquid CO₂ transport by pipeline, subsurface wells, vessel transport, capture technology selection and its impact on downstream corrosion and integrity decisions. This includes CO₂ specification, materials selection, corrosion assessment, dense-phase transport risks, pipeline repurposing, ductile running fracture, well integrity, thermodynamic review and risk assessment across the UK, Europe, North America, the Middle East, South America, Iceland and Australia. Ivan is Great Britain’s BSI expert for corrosion-resistant materials and contributes to international standardisation through BSI, AMPP/NACE and ISO/TC 67 working groups. He has reviewed AMPP CCS guidance and standards on materials selection and corrosion control for CCS projects. His perspective is shaped by practical North Sea delivery and international CCS experience, translating UK-based engineering judgement into projects worldwide.

James has over 30 years of experience in the upstream oil & gas, CCUS and hydrogen industries with a proven track record in leading projects from early concept through to final installation and operation.

James has led the CCUS team in Xodus since 2009 and has been involved with CCUS since 2006. He has been instrumental in a wide range of industry leading CCUS projects and analysis worldwide, supporting clients ranging from project developers, investment houses, regulators, and industry bodies.

Joost Hooghiem is Director of CCS at Energie Beheer Nederland (EBN), leading large-scale CCS initiatives in transport and storage facilities in the Netherlands. On behalf of EBN, he is also Member of the Board of Porthos.

He previously held senior roles at Gasunie, including Director of Hynetwork Services and Director Projects. Joost brings extensive experience in energy infrastructure and public-private collaboration. He holds a degree in Industrial Engineering and Management from the University of Groningen. Joost is committed to advancing the Dutch energy transition through innovative solutions.

Joseph Dutton is Energy Innovation Lead at AXIS Insurance. He leads strategy and internal research on the energy transition and climate technologies, working closely with the underwriting teams across multiple classes of insurance. He has worked on international energy policy, markets, and technology for over 15 years, across various roles in consultancy, academia and think tanks. Before joining Axis, he worked at climate and carbon consultancy South Pole, and at energy and climate think tank E3G where he led research programmes on energy infrastructure, climate and decarbonisation policy, and the future of energy systems for net zero.

Jørg Aarnes manages advocacy activities on behalf of CO2 storage project developers on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. With almost 20 years in the CCS space, Jørg has followed the industry from early commercialization to being a central component of global climate and energy policy. His involvement in more than 100 consultancy projects across the world gives him deep insight into the solutions being developed, the challenges the industry faces, and the respective regulatory and policy environments.

Katie specialises in delivering complex transactions within a public sector environment, having delivered a range of equity, debt, nationalisation, privatisation, and restructuring activity primarily within the utilities sector, on behalf of UK government. Katie’s recent experience includes leading on the transaction to bring the Electricity System Operator into public ownership to create the NESO, advising UK government on the Bulb Special Administration and sale back into the market, and more recently delivering GBE’s largest investment to-date into ITM Power in Sheffield.

Kurt Jager Lykke has 28 years of experience from the energy industry. Initially within engineering consultancy and during the last 17 years in various commercial leadership roles at DONG Energy (now Ørsted) and INEOS. Kurt holds a M.Sc. in Mech. Eng. from Technical University of Denmark, a Graduate Diploma in Finance and an MBA in Technology, Market and Organization from Copenhagen Business School. Currently, Kurt is Head Business DK and Greensand at INEOS Energy with overall responsible for the INEOS Energy operated CCS Project Greensand as well as other main commercial activities within INEOS Energy Denmark.

Luigi Crolla is a Director specialising in Energy Transition and Low Carbon Technologies at Kent. With a strong focus on advancing sustainable industrial solutions, he plays a key role in driving the development and integration of innovative decarbonisation strategies and technologies across complex energy projects. His expertise spans over 20years in process system design, carbon capture technologies, and renewable fuel systems, including work on next-generation ammonia plants and amine-based CO₂ capture solutions. Luigi is recognised for his ability to bridge technical engineering excellence with strategic vision, enabling organisations to navigate the evolving energy landscape while meeting ambitious net-zero targets. He collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams and senior stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered efficiently, safely, and in line with environmental objectives. Passionate about the energy transition, he is committed to accelerating the deployment of scalable, low-carbon technologies that support a more sustainable and resilient global energy system.

Mark is UK Director of the Carbon Capture and Storage Association (CCSA), leading policy and regulatory advocacy to accelerate the UK’s CCUS sector. With over a decade in energy and environmental trade bodies, he has worked closely with government, industry and financiers to advance clean technologies. The CCSA is the leading pan-European CCUS trade body, representing more than 105 organisations. Mark holds degrees from the University of Cambridge and the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership and is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.

With over 20 years of experience in the energy sector Matt has deliver energy transition projects from supply chain through to project developer and operator. As a member of the executive team for Spirit Energy, Matt is responsible for Energy Transition, Wells, Decommissioning and Projects. Within his remit is the development and delivery of Morecambe Net Zero (MNZ). MNZ is a pioneering decarbonisation solution that will repurpose depleted gas fields into a world-leading carbon storage facility, able to accept and store up to a gigaton of CO₂ over its lifetime.

As a chartered engineer, a fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers Matt is leading the worlds largest cement decarbonisation project brining together customers, supply chain, regulators and Government to bring to life the first NWF investment in CCS in the UK.

Navid has been working in the UK Civil Service since 2017. He has been in a number of policy roles across DESNZ, HM Treasury, Department for Health and Social Care. Over the last three years, he has been focusing on CCUS delivery and strategy in DESNZ.

Nick is an energy transition and decarbonisation partner at Pinsent Masons, with 15 years’ experience advising on energy and carbon capture and storage projects. Nick sits on the firm’s global CCS and Hydrogen market team and advises promoters on consenting CCS, hydrogen and SAF projects including in the East Coast, Viking, South Wales and HyNet clusters across the emitter, T&S and offtaker value chain. Nick is Global Co-Team Leader for the firm’s Planning & Environment team.

John Underhill is Aberdeen University’s Interdisciplinary Director for Energy Transition and Professor in Geoscience and Energy Transition in their School of Geosciences. He is the academic executive director of the UK’s GeoNetZero* Centre of Doctoral Training (CDT). His research interests focus upon the role of geoscience in the energy transition and use of methods and data in providing the best solutions and outcomes to deliver low-carbon net zero goals. Before taking up an academic career that has seen him hold posts at Edinburgh, Heriot-Watt and Aberdeen Universities, John worked as an Exploration Geoscientist for Shell and has also undertaken sabbaticals with bp in Glasgow and Norsk Hydro in Bergen. John helped lead Heriot-Watt’s efforts to set up the Lyell Centre for Earth and Marine Science and Technology and was the University’s Chief Scientist. He was a board member of the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE) for three years and their President in 2011-12. John was the Chair of the National Energy Skills Accelerator (NESA), a collaboration between Aberdeen University, Robert Gordon University *RGU), North-East Scotland College, Skills development Scotland and Energy Transition Zone (ETZ) in 2022-23. An unusual fact is that he also was a professional football referee who officiated in the top-flight matches in Scotland and Europe between 1994-2008.

*GeoNetZero = The Role of Geoscience in the Energy Transition and in addressing the Challenge to meet net zero emission targets

Rich is Managing Director of the Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP), leading the delivery of the UK’s first large-scale CO₂ transportation and storage infrastructure. Prior to joining NEP, he spent four years in the UK Government as Major Projects Lead for CCUS and Hydrogen at the Infrastructure & Projects Authority.

An experienced industry leader, Rich brings 28 years of experience at Shell, where he held senior technical, commercial, and leadership roles across the Upstream business. From 2016 to 2019, he served as Managing Director of Shell Norway, during which he helped establish Northern Lights, the world-leading CO₂ transport and storage joint venture.

NEP is developing onshore and offshore CO₂ transport infrastructure to support carbon capture projects across Teesside and the Humber, collectively known as the East Coast Cluster.

Richard has over three decades of experience developing and delivering offshore energy projects across oil and gas and offshore fixed and floating wind. In the last ten years, his focus has been in CCS and hydrogen energy transition systems. He currently leads sustainable hydrogen, carbon capture and gas storage project development at Summit Energy Evolution Limited (SEEL), the UK-based energy transition arm of Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation and is Project Director of the Bacton BH2 Project.

Scott leads global sales & business development for Carbon Circle’s carbon capture and CO2 handling technology and engineering across onshore and offshore industrial emitters, and offshore CO2 transportation and storage licensee sectors. Prior to Carbon Circle, Scott’s experience includes over 25 years in technical and managerial positions with North Sea oil & gas operating companies; leadership posts in the UK’s North Sea Transition Authority (a regulator for the UK’s CCS sector); and Head of Industrial Decarbonisation and CCUS at Ricardo Energy & Environment. Scott is also a Fellow of the Energy Institute.

Stephen Gethins studied Law at the University of Dundee and completed a Masters degree at the University of Kent. Before entering elected politics, he worked in the NGO sector on peace-building, arms control and democracy in areas affected by conflict, with a particular focus on Eastern Europe and the Caucasus. Stephen also worked in Brussels in the EU and at Scotland House. He later served as a Special Adviser on European and International Affairs to First Ministers Alex Salmond and Nicola Sturgeon.

Mr Gethins served as MP for North East Fife from 2015 to 2019 and then MP for Arbroath and Broughty Ferry from 2024 to 2026. Between his time as an MP, he was Professor of Practice in International Relations and served on the Senior Management Team as Assistant Vice-Principal International at the University of St Andrews.

He was elected to the Scottish Parliament as the MSP for Dundee City East in May 2026.
