The opening session of the inaugural OEUK North Sea CCS and Hydrogen Summit will set the scene on how CCS and hydrogen sectors have arrived to where they are today. It will lay the foundations for the summit dialogue: how do we ensure that we unlock, deliver and sustain resilient CCS and hydrogen networks. It will explore how projects and infrastructure can unlock the potential of the North Sea region and what we need to see to integrate across jurisdictions and how to manage increasingly busy offshore environments. These networks, connected between both on and offshore domains, can support energy security, decarbonisation and industrial ambitions. If done right, we can see benefits for the UK and neighbouring North Sea countries and the region can remain the powerhouse for European energy.

An Integrated and Resilient North Sea

DNV, through the launch of a commissioned study, will explore the summit theme of an Integrated and Resilient North Sea. The study defines resilience across operational, technical, economic and regulatory dimensions, and highlights the CCS and hydrogen networks needed to support UK and wider European ambitions — underpinned by DNV’s Energy Transition Outlook data.

This session will showcase projects that have the potential to significantly contribute towards UK hydrogen production capacity and the development of transportation infrastructure networks. These projects highlight the opportunity for re-purposing, re-use and the benefit of strategic infrastructure placement to drive at scale hydrogen production. Based in a range of geographies, these projects explore delivery challenges as well as the partnerships and policy frameworks needed to unlock at scale hydrogen production.

The Evolving Business Case for CCS

This session will explore how the business case for CCS in the UK is evolving outside of Track 1 and how to ensure a route to market for these projects. Speakers will discuss where the business case needs to move to and how to manage different investor sets, varying use bases and demand, and the policy levers that can be used to unlock movement in projects, driving scale and cost reductions. They will also address the role of regulated revenue frameworks and opportunities for shared infrastructure.
